It was just a few years ago that I was living in a condo just South of The Junction. I loved my building, and I really loved my neighbourhood. But, there was plenty of things I didn’t love about living on the 10th floor of a condo building, and eventually, I decided that it was time to sell my condo and buy a house. If you’re living in a condo, here are a few things that may make you realize that it’s time to sell your condo buy a house too.

5. You really want to have BBQ.

While there are a ton of condo buildings that have a community BBQ area (and even a few that do allow it on the balcony), that’s not even close to having your own BBQ in your own backyard. At your own house, you can BBQ in the Winter, in your pyjamas, and cook anything you want. Try doing that in your condo building’s community BBQ area, and you’re sure to get a few strange looks, and maybe even a complaint from the condo board 🙁

4. You want more privacy.

In a condo building, you just don’t have the same level of privacy that you do in your own house. Maybe the walls are thin, maybe packing into an elevator with your neighbours bugs you, maybe the conceirge is a little to nosy and keeps tabs on what the residents do, or maybe it’s all of the above; either way, you’re likely to have much more privacy in your very own house.

3. You want a garage.

Garages are one of those truly awesome spaces that you never realized you needed until you have it. They’re perfect for extra storage, and they’re great for hanging out in on those long Summer evenings and having drinks with your friends and neighbours.

2. You want to be as loud as you want to be.

I get it. When that new Black Keys or Jack White song comes on, you just have to play it full volume. Or maybe your husband tells you that when he’s deep into the new EXO Zombies Havoc game on Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, it’s impossible to play on low volume (that’s what mine tells me anyway). Either way, in your own house, you can crank it up, and basically be as loud as you want for those times when you feel like you just have to.

1. You want a backyard.

Backyards are just the best. Whether you want to have a garden, have a party, have a hot tub, or have a dog, life with your own backyard makes everything that much better.

Does any of that sound familiar? If so, it might be time to think about upsizing to a house, or at least looking around at a few of them to see if house-living is for you.
